Collaborative Activity Materials

In the Parent/Instructor section of the Lessons tab for a given skill, you will find activities that are called either Small Group Collaborative or Peer to Peer. These materials are designed for students to work in small groups of 2-3 for Peer to Peer activities and 3-6 for Small Group Collaborative activities.

In Peer to Peer lessons, students will develop problem solving and mathematical communication skills. Students will work independently to solve a problem, and then compare their strategies and reflect on their learning together afterwards.

Small Group Collaborative lessons are an opportunity for groups of students to work together to solve a mathematical problem in a real world context. The goal is to develop a skill understanding while building collaboration, communication, problem solving and reasoning skills.

See below for an example of how a student can access Peer to Peer and Small Group Collaboration lessons.

Both of these lesson types are about more than getting the right answer. What's even more important is thinking about how to approach the problem and how students can share their thinking and learn from their peers.

If you need help figuring out how to form these groups, check out Using "Ready For" Information to Make the Best Use of Teacher Materials for that.
